Abnormal uterine bleeding is unexpected bleeding from the inside of the vagina. What is considered abnormal varies, depending on what is normal for a particular woman.
Abnormal uterine bleeding has many causes. It’s sometimes caused by changes in hormone levels. It can also be caused by problems such as growths in the uterus or clotting problems. In some cases, the cause of the bleeding isn’t known.
Your doctor will ask how often, how long and how much you have been bleeding. They may also ask for a record of the days you have had your period, how heavy or light the flow was, and how you felt each day.
