IVC Filter Clinic Appointments & Referrals

The IVC Filter Clinic at Parkview Heart Institute is a collaborative outpatient service designed to guide both patients and providers safely through IVC Filter placement. The relative ease of temporary IVC filter placement has led to a marked increase in their use, with a subsequent increase in their long-term complications. In response, the FDA issued guidelines to ensure appropriate indications for filter placement, close follow-up of filter patients, and prompt removal of filters when appropriate - thus assuring good patient outcomes and compliance with FDA mandates.

The physicians and staff of the IVC Filter Clinic at Parkview Heart Institute can help you improve the quality of life for your patients with a risk for developing moving clots that come from your legs.

Our team includes physicians with specialization in general cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology, interventional cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. Upon referral, your patient’s current condition and history will be evaluated by members of the care team to identify the best treatment plan for that individual, considering their physiological status and co-morbidities.

Type of patient to refer:

The IVC Filter Clinic follows all patients who receive a filter at any location within the Parkview Health system, and consults for appropriateness of filter removal inpatients with filter placed outside the Parkview system. 

• Any patient with an existing IVC filter, less than five years for guidance on appropriateness of removal
• Any patient under consideration for IVC filter placement
• Inpatients reviewed by Parkview Physicians Group – Cardiology staff with IVC filter consult ordered
