What is a clinical trial?
According to the National Cancer Institute, clinical trials are research studies that involve people. Through these trials, doctors find new ways to improve treatments and the quality of life for people living with diseases.
Why do clinical trials matter?
Unfortunately, there are still many conditions that we can’t cure yet and research studies offer hope to those patients that have exhausted all other treatment options. It gives our patients not just hope of a better treatment but also hope that they are participating in something that could make other patients’ lives better in the future.

In the first 25 years of its operation, Parkview Research Center, in conjunction with physician partners, has completed more than 300 clinical studies that have enhanced healthcare for the community.

We currently have around 150 open trials but they are constantly changing.

Clinical trials provide access to investigational drugs and devices to patients and provide physicians the opportunity to be involved in ground breaking research.
On average, how long does it take for a drug to go from research to market?
On average, it can take around 12 years for a drug to go from research to market.
How much does it cost to bring a drug to market?
According to Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development, the cost to bring a single drug to market is between $1 billion and $11 billion. A drug patent lasts for 20 years, but it will take on average 12 of those 20 years to bring a drug to market, leaving only eight years for a pharmaceutical company to recoup its investment.

How does someone sign up for a clinical study?
They have to meet certain criteria that the study outlines. The factors that allow someone to participate in a clinical study are called inclusion criteria and the factors that disqualify someone from participating are called exclusion criteria. The criteria is different for each study and is dependent on what is being studied.
