Want to make shopping more convenient? Change your diet? Trim your grocery bill? There’s an app for that! Sarah Mohrman, RDN, CD, MA, program coordinator, Parkview Heart Institute, shared with us her go-to apps for everything from meal planning to calorie tracking.
 
Meal Planning

The app: Handpick
The benefits:

  • Look for recipes based on what’s in your kitchen
  • Meal kits ­– A list of ingredients you will need to easily prepare 3 recipes

 

The app: BigOven
The benefits:

  • Get ideas – Find recipe inspiration right when you open the app
  • My Recipes – Clip from your favorite sites. Snap a photo of a family recipe, and they upload it for you. Find the recipes you've marked as Favorite or Try. Organize your recipes into folders, filter by category, and view your recently used folders.
  • Grocery List – Shop smarter. Create a shared grocery list for your household. Sort items by department or by recipe. Easily mark them off or remove by swiping as you shop.
  • Use Up Leftovers – Use up what’s in your fridge. Type in up to three ingredients, and we’ll show you what you can make.

 

The app: Pinterest
The benefits:

  • Search recipes across the Internet
  • Create an “ON THE MENU” board with recipes to make this week. At the end of the week, clear it out and start with new recipes

 

The app: Tasty (Apple products only)
The benefits:

  • Quick videos and great visuals
  • Can search for certain categories
  • Step-by-step visuals
  • Can save recipes to favorites

 

The app: AnyList (For iPhone and iPad)
The benefits:

  • Quickly create organized lists – Suggests common items as you type and automatically groups items by category to help save time at the store
  • Create as many lists as you would like/organize by store. Can also create tasks lists, packing lists, etc.
  • Easily share lists – Stay in sync with family members. Any changes made to a shared list shows up instantly. Optional push notifications can occur if list has been modified
  • Use favorites to build a master list
  • Add photos to list items to help you find the right product at the store
  • Add items with siri
  • Collect and organize your recipes from emails, websites and blogs. Easily add ingredients from recipe to shopping list
  • Use the meal planner to keep things organized in one place

  • Create a profile with your food interests, and the app will suggest similar products that best match your interests right in the store you’re standing in

  • When you travel, membership goes with you
