Parkview offers a unique opportunity for individuals who are new to positions that provide direct patient care. Patient Care Foundations is a two-week course designed to provide essential training by blending classroom instruction, simulations, skills labs and supervised clinical time on the patient care units.

How is Patient Care Foundations similar to a CNA course?

During the course, individuals will gain fundamental training on such topics as assessing activities of daily living, taking vital signs and transferring patients safely. All participants will also engage in direct clinical time with patients under the supervision of licensed registered nurses.

How is Patient Care Foundations different from a CNA course?

The Patient Care Foundations course is shorter in length and tailored specifically for the acute care, hospital setting. It's designed to provide the essential education needed for the Patient Care Technician and Unit Assistant roles. The program is not intended to prepare individuals for the state CNA exam.

Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne is a tertiary care center, offering access for critically ill or injured patients with the specialized care they need, including expert trauma services at Parkview’s Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, cardiovascular care at Parkview Heart Institute, stroke intervention and follow-up care from the Parkview Stanley Wissman Stroke Center and specialized pediatric medical care and diagnostic imaging at Parkview Children’s Emergency Care Center.
