Several career paths exist for professional development of pre-hospital team members who wish to expand their skills, knowledge, and career progression. An increase in hourly pay is associated with successful completion of each career path.
EMT Career Path: Level 1
New or current EMTs can choose an advanced EMT career path program, which includes furthering their education or serving as a primary skills instructor for their peers.
Upon graduation from the program, co-workers receive a sign-on bonus and advance to the title of paramedic. All new paramedics receive training through an additional year-long, full-time orientation with an experienced peer.
Paramedic Career Path: Level 1 and II
Experienced paramedics may continue their career development upon completing orientation. Co-workers who achieve Level I of the paramedic career path engage in community outreach events and participate in professional committees.
To achieve Level II, paramedics achieve a specialty practice certification, as well as effectively serve as instructor or preceptor for their peers.
